composer.json constraint before bumping — a "compatibility" patch in a 0.x line can drop old majors. Before adopting: read the actual version constraints, check release cadence and issue-response history, and confirm test coverage across both Nova majors rather than trusting the changelog line.
For executives: this is a small, low-cost dependency in our admin tooling. The newest release keeps it compatible with Nova 5, which clears a blocker from our planned admin-panel upgrade. It is a maintenance release — no new features, no user-visible change. The main risk is vendor maturity: pre-1.0 versioning and a thin changelog. We mitigate that by keeping its usage narrow and verifying version constraints before we upgrade.
For engineering: v0.2.1 adds Nova 5 compatibility. Confirm whether Nova 4 is still supported before bumping — at 0.x, a patch release is not a backward-compatibility guarantee. Pin the version, run the Nova upgrade on a branch, and smoke-test every surface that depends on this package. If our usage turns out to be deep, budget for a fallback to an in-house implementation rather than discovering that mid-migration.
