Getting Started

The 1.0.1 release notes are minimal ("Full Version 1 with all the app files in your application"), so treat this as a scaffold/starter package that ships application files into your Laravel app rather than a runtime library. Start by confirming that assumption before wiring it into anything real.

Minimal steps:

  1. Install into a throwaway branch or fresh app first: composer require <vendor>/<package> (pin 1.0.1 explicitly so you can diff later).
  2. Read the package's README, composer.json (extra.laravel.providers, autoload), and any src/Console/Commands directory. The install command and the list of published paths are the real documentation here.
  3. Run the installer/publish step (php artisan vendor:publish --tag=<package> or the package's own install command) and immediately git status to see exactly which files landed where.
  4. Register the service provider if it isn't auto-discovered (Laravel 11+ uses bootstrap/providers.php; older apps use config/app.php).
  5. Run php artisan migrate, php artisan route:list, and php artisan about to surface anything that didn't register cleanly.

First use case: scaffold one vertical slice (e.g. a resource with model, migration, controller, routes, views, and a factory), run it, then customize it in place. Do not adopt everything the package ships in one commit.

Implementation Patterns

  • Publish-then-own. The published files become your code. Commit them in a single, clearly labelled commit ("chore: scaffold from 1.0.1") so a future upgrade diff is readable.
  • One-shot scaffold, not a dependency. If the package only ships files, consider removing it from require after publishing (or move it to require-dev) so it doesn't ride along in production composer install. Keep a note of the version you scaffolded from.
  • Namespace it under your app. If the shipped files use the package's namespace or a generic App\ namespace, run a search-and-replace (or the package's --namespace option, if it has one) before you start editing.
  • Wrap installs in a repeatable Artisan command. If you scaffold several modules, put the vendor publish + migrations + cache clears into a small internal command so fresh environments (CI, new devs, staging) can be rebuilt deterministically.
  • Integrate behind your own route group. Move published routes into routes/web.php or a dedicated routes/<feature>.php with your app's middleware, prefix, and auth guards rather than relying on whatever the package registered.
  • Config-driven behaviour. If a published config/<package>.php exists, keep it thin and read values from env() in your own config; the published file is where upgrade conflicts will appear.
  • Feature-flag the new surface. Since the shipped files include routes/controllers, gate them behind a flag or a disabled-by-default route group until you've reviewed every endpoint the package exposes.

Gotchas and Tips

  • Published files don't get updated. Upgrading the package will not change files you already published. On each new version, publish to a temp directory and diff -ru against your copies; the 1.0.1 notes give you no changelog to reason about, so the diff is your changelog.
  • Silent overwrites. Many install commands overwrite existing files without asking. Always run with --force off first, and check for pre-existing files at the target paths (app/Models/User.php, routes/web.php, bootstrap/app.php are common casualties).
  • Class and migration collisions. Duplicate class names cause "cannot redeclare" or confusing autoload resolution; duplicate migration timestamps/names cause migrate to skip or fail. Inspect database/migrations before and after.
  • Autoload and caches. After publishing, run composer dump-autoload, and if things look stale: php artisan optimize:clear (covers config, route, view, and event caches). Route changes not appearing is almost always route:cache.
  • Provider not loading. In Laravel 11+, a missing bootstrap/providers.php entry makes commands and bindings vanish with no error; in older apps check config/app.php. Verify with php artisan about and by running php artisan list | grep <package>.
  • Debugging a missing route or class: php artisan route:list --path=<segment>, php artisan tinker with class_exists(...), and composer show <vendor>/<package> to confirm the installed version really is 1.0.1.
  • Version pinning is essential. "<vendor>/<package>": "1.0.1" (exact) until you've diffed 1.0.x releases; a scaffold package changing shipped app files under you is a merge conflict waiting to happen.
  • Security review of shipped code. Scaffolded controllers, middleware, and Blade views are often demo-grade: check for mass-assignment ($guarded = []), missing authorization, env() calls outside config, and debug/dump statements before shipping.
  • Extension points are limited by design. With app files in your codebase, the intended extension point is editing them. Anything you want to keep upgradeable should be pushed into your own services/actions that the scaffolded controllers call, leaving the generated files as thin as possible.
  • Caveat on this assessment: the 1.0.1 notes carry no feature list, breaking-change notice, or migration guide. Re-verify the install command, published paths, and Laravel version support against the package source before relying on the patterns above.
