Product Decisions This Supports
- Admin UX polish / perceived quality: Adding audible cues to Filament actions (save, delete, validation errors, notifications) is a cheap perceived-quality win for internal tools and back-office panels where operators do repetitive, high-volume work. It supports decisions like "do we invest in micro-interactions for our ops team?" without committing engineering sprint time.
- Build vs buy: This is a small, single-purpose Filament plugin. Buying (installing) is the right call versus building — you'd otherwise re-implement asset publishing, a settings page, per-panel configuration, and translation wiring yourself. It is not a differentiator; treat it as a commodity dependency.
- Scope triage for roadmap: Helps you decide whether audio feedback belongs in a "polish" ticket for an admin panel vs. being deprioritized. It's a low-effort optional layer — good for a 1–2 hour spike, not a roadmap line item.
- Accessibility & environment considerations: Audio cues are a supplementary channel, not a primary one. This feeds decisions about whether your operator environment (shared office, call center, warehouse, kiosk) tolerates sound, and whether you need a user-level mute toggle rather than a global config.
- Feature-flag / per-panel rollout: Because configuration is panel-level, it supports a decision to pilot audio feedback on one internal panel before wider adoption.
When to Consider This Package
Consider it when:
- You run Filament v3/v4 admin panels and want low-cost UX feedback for repetitive operator workflows (data entry, order processing, support queues).
- You have an internal audience where you can validate tolerance for sound and where a global or per-panel setting is sufficient.
- You want a maintained, drop-in plugin with an install/uninstall artisan command and published assets rather than hand-rolled JS.
- You're comfortable with package churn: v1.4.0 renamed the Composer package (
blemli/filament-audiofeedback → blemli/audiofeedback-for-filament) and moved published assets to public/{js,css}/blemli/audiofeedback-for-filament/. Migration is a remove/require plus php artisan filament:assets and deletion of the old asset directories. Namespace, plugin class, config key, translation namespace, routes, and the audiofeedback_settings table are unchanged, so application code and data are unaffected — but your composer.json constraint and any deploy scripts referencing asset paths must change.
- Supply-chain hygiene matters to you: pin the version, and note that the install command no longer prompts to star the repo (a small but welcome reduction in install-time surprises for automated/unattended setups).
Look elsewhere (or skip) when:
- Your users are in shared/quiet environments or on kiosk devices where unexpected sound is a liability and you can't guarantee a mute control.
- You need fine-grained, per-user, per-event audio control — this plugin's configuration model is panel-level, not a full notification-preference system.
- You have a strict dependency policy (few third-party Filament plugins, mandatory security review per dependency). Audio feedback is cosmetic; it rarely justifies the review overhead.
- You're not on Filament, or you need the same behavior in a non-admin context (customer-facing app) where this plugin doesn't apply.
- You're mid-freeze or mid-audit: the v1.4.0 rename is mechanical but touches
composer.json and deploy asset paths — schedule it deliberately rather than during a release crunch.
How to Pitch It (Stakeholders)
For executives (one line): A small, free Filament plugin that adds optional sound cues to admin actions — a low-cost usability improvement for back-office teams, with no infrastructure cost and no data-model impact.
For engineering leads: A thin, single-purpose Filament plugin. Install is one Composer require plus the plugin registration; assets publish via php artisan filament:assets. Config key, plugin class, translations, routes, and the audiofeedback_settings table are stable across the rename, so this is a packaging change, not an API change. Concrete migration cost: update the package name in composer.json, remove/require, republish assets, and delete stale public/{js,css}/blemli/filament-audiofeedback/ directories. Half a day including a smoke test, assuming your deploy pipeline doesn't hardcode asset paths.
For product/design: Sound is a secondary feedback channel. Ship it opt-in and per-panel first; watch for complaints in shared workspaces. If you later need per-user control, expect to build a preference layer on top — this plugin won't provide it.
Risk framing: Low technical risk (no schema changes, no auth surface, reversible via uninstall — which, as of v1.4.0, also cleans up the published stylesheet directory). The main risk is cosmetic and organizational: operator annoyance if enabled globally without a mute path. Recommend piloting before broad rollout, and pinning the version to avoid surprise renames.
