BeyondCode's Laravel View Xray lets you inspect Blade views directly in the browser. See which view file is rendered and what data it receives, making it easy to debug view composers, includes, and data issues in Laravel applications.
require-dev, pinned in composer.lock, gated to APP_ENV=local, and assigned a named owner.View::composer logger are stronger candidates for maintained workflows. For executives: This is a free, low-effort developer diagnostic that can shorten investigation time on Laravel view-related bugs and speed up understanding of legacy UI structure. It is not a strategic dependency. The package is archived, last released in October 2020, has no dependents, and carries no vendor support — so any breakage becomes our cost. Recommendation: approve as a local evaluation or audit aid with a defined time box, not as a production or platform commitment. Success looks like reduced triage time on view-related defects and a documented view map; failure looks like a compatibility dead end, in which case we remove it and move to a maintained alternative.
For engineering: Install with --dev, verify against the target Laravel/PHP matrix on a branch, gate strictly to local via the environment flag, and keep it out of shared dependencies. Use it to trace include/component ownership, confirm view boundaries before and after refactors, and document legacy Blade composition. Pair it with Debugbar or Clockwork for queries and performance — Xray answers “where did this HTML come from?” and nothing else. Be aware of the known limits: response injection fails on streamed, JSON, CSP-restricted, or post-processed responses; line numbers can drift against compiled views; and it does not follow partial DOM swaps in Livewire/HTMX/Inertia flows. If it proves valuable but incompatible, fork it, narrow the supported range, and own the maintenance — otherwise remove it and use a view-composer logger as the fallback. Attach a review or removal trigger tied to the next Laravel major so a short spike does not become an unowned dependency through inertia.
