To executives: This is a low-cost accelerator for evaluating Zenlayer as an edge and APAC capacity provider — a few days of integration instead of a few weeks. It is not a platform commitment. The dependency risk is real but small and contained if we pin the version and hide it behind our own interface: single maintainer, pre-1.0 versioning, and a changelog that for v0.2.9 contains no described changes at all. Recommendation: fund a time-boxed spike against one concrete use case (e.g. edge instance provisioning from the ops panel), with a written go/no-go on Zenlayer itself before any production traffic depends on this package.
To engineering: It is a thin Laravel wrapper over the official Zenlayer PHP SDK — service provider, config publish, container-bound client. Do not call it from controllers or domain code. Put it behind a ZenlayerGateway interface with our own DTOs, pin the exact version in composer.json, and treat every 0.x bump as potentially breaking regardless of semver digit — v0.2.9 shipped with only a diff link, so the only reliable way to know what changed is to read the commits ourselves. Own the parts the wrapper does not give us: retry/backoff, idempotency keys on provisioning calls, error mapping, rate-limit handling, and credential rotation. Add contract tests against a sandbox or recorded fixtures so an upstream bump fails loudly in CI rather than in production. Watch the upstream repo for a 1.0 or a documented changelog before we widen usage.
