arzcode/shared-secrets
A Laravel package for creating and managing shared secrets, helping you store sensitive values and share them securely through controlled access, optional expiration, and simple integration with your PHP applications.
Basis of assessment: release notes for 1.0.3 only ("Fix for second secret link to be shown. Increase logo size"). No repository, composer.json, or docs were supplied. Treat the following as directional and validate against the key questions.
Architecture fit
Integration feasibility
Standard composer require → publish vendor assets → migrate → register resolution middleware and rate limiting → wire notifications for link delivery. Feasible within a sprint for a single Laravel service.
Technical risk Low for the upgrade itself. Residual risks: (a) published-view drift masking both the bug fix and the logo change; (b) unknown Laravel/PHP support matrix; (c) secret-link semantics (single-use, expiry, revocation, hashing at rest) are security-relevant and unevidenced in the notes; (d) no visible CI/test signal for the fix.
Key questions
Stack fit Assumes a conventional Laravel app (Blade + Eloquent + queues). Good fit where the app already owns authentication and only needs tokenized, optionally expiring access URLs. Poor fit if we need per-recipient granular permissions, external IdP integration, or non-Laravel consumers of the same links.
Migration path
^1.0.3, composer update, run any new migrations (expected: none), clear config/view caches.vendor:publish (config, views, migrations, assets selectively) → migrate → configure expiry, route prefix, middleware → smoke test.Compatibility
Verify PHP and Laravel constraints in composer.json before committing; check the package's Blade directives against our target Laravel version; confirm the asset publish path does not collide with existing public assets.
Sequencing
Maintenance
Low. Patch-level churn. The real burden is published-view divergence, which is where silent regressions live. Pin with ^1.0 and review minors deliberately.
Support No SLA, support contract, or maintainer responsiveness data in hand — assume community/GitHub-issues support. Budget internal ownership of the integration layer (views, middleware, rate limits) rather than package internals.
Scaling Issuance is a small write; resolution is a read-by-token that should be uniquely indexed. Watch (a) table growth and TTL cleanup for expired links, (b) rate limiting on the resolution endpoint to prevent token guessing — verify the package provides it or add middleware, (c) cache invalidation if lookups are cached.
Failure modes
Ramp-up Half a day for a Laravel-fluent engineer to install, publish, and validate; add half a day if views are customized. Minimal onboarding beyond confirming the README's publish tags.
Recommendation: Adopt 1.0.3 as a routine patch — low risk, fixes a user-visible defect — contingent on confirming the version matrix, the absence of migrations/config changes, and whether our published views need a manual port.
