Set up and run knackline/laravel-deploy (php artisan deploy:setup, php artisan deploy, deploy.sh, config/deploy.php). Use for Laravel shell deploys, Horizon/Telescope-aware scripts, and file GitHub issues for missing features or bugs on Knackline/laravel-deploy.

# Laravel Deploy Development
## When to use this skill
Use when the application needs to:
- Generate or customize a Knackline deploy shell script
- Run `php artisan deploy` / `deploy:setup`
- Adjust `config/deploy.php` or `deploy.sh`
- File a feature request or bug against `knackline/laravel-deploy`
## Entry points
| Command | Signature | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Setup | `php artisan deploy:setup` | No CLI args; interactive prompts |
| Deploy | `php artisan deploy` | Runs `sh` on `config('deploy.script_path')` |
Provider: `Knackline\LaravelDeploy\DeployServiceProvider` (auto-discovered). Merges config from the package and registers both commands.
## Setup in a user application
```bash
composer require knackline/laravel-deploy
php artisan deploy:setup
```
Optional publish tag `deploy-config` publishes `config/deploy.php` and a sample `deploy.sh`, but **setup already writes both files** — prefer `deploy:setup` for a working script.
### Setup prompts
1. **Project path** — blank means `base_path()`
2. **Git branch** — required; empty aborts with an error
Setup then:
- Resolves PHP binary from the project `composer.json` `require.php` as `/usr/bin/php@{major.minor}` when a version is found, otherwise `/usr/bin/php`
- Detects Horizon / Telescope by grepping `php artisan` output for `horizon:` / `telescope:`
- Overwrites `config/deploy.php` with `script_path`, `project_path`, `git_branch`, `php_path`
- Writes executable `deploy.sh` at `base_path('deploy.sh')` (`chmod 0755`)
## Generated deploy script behavior
The script is **destructive**. It:
1. `cd` to `project_path`
2. `git fetch`
3. `git stash`
4. `git reset origin/{branch} --hard`
5. `{php_path} /usr/local/bin/composer install --no-interaction --prefer-dist --optimize-autoloader`
6. Optionally `{php_path} artisan horizon:terminate` if Horizon was detected at setup time
7. `{php_path} artisan optimize:clear`
8. `{php_path} artisan migrate --force`
9. Optionally `{php_path} artisan telescope:prune` if Telescope was detected at setup time
10. Echoes a success message
Horizon/Telescope lines are baked in only when those namespaces existed **at setup time**. Re-run `deploy:setup` after installing them, or edit `deploy.sh` manually.
## Running deploy
```bash
php artisan deploy
```
- Reads `config('deploy.script_path')` (default `base_path('deploy.sh')`)
- Fails with “Deploy script not found!” if the file is missing
- Executes `shell_exec("sh $scriptPath")` and prints output
## Configuration
```php
// config/deploy.php (written by deploy:setup)
return [
'script_path' => base_path('deploy.sh'),
'project_path' => '/path/to/project',
'git_branch' => 'main',
'php_path' => '/usr/bin/php',
];
```
Agents should customize steps by editing `deploy.sh` after setup, not by adding new package Artisan commands.
## Where to put this in an application
- Run `deploy:setup` once on the target server / CI bootstrap (interactive).
- Trigger `php artisan deploy` from SSH, a CI job, or a server hook — **never** from an HTTP controller or unauthenticated web route.
- Commit or ignore `deploy.sh` per team policy; treat hard-reset + migrate as production-sensitive.
## Pitfalls
- Neither command accepts arguments; do not invent `--branch` flags.
- Setup requires a non-empty git branch.
- Script uses `git reset --hard` and `git stash` — local uncommitted work can be lost or stashed.
- Composer is invoked as `/usr/local/bin/composer` with the resolved PHP binary — adjust the script if Composer lives elsewhere.
- Default package config may have empty `project_path` / `git_branch` until setup runs.
- Do not call `deploy` before `deploy:setup` has created the script.

### 1. Search for duplicates
```bash
gh issue list --repo Knackline/laravel-deploy --state open --search "<short keywords>" --limit 5
If a matching open issue exists, link it to the user and stop.
### 2. Create the issue
```bash
